ship’s log 13: some to-do’s before we set sail
Before we could finally set sail, there were still a few things left to take care of. We knew that trying to finish everything would only keep us tied to the dock forever, so we narrowed it down to the following things. Also knowing that we want to be ready to leave when our parents came to say goodbye gave us a two-week window.
Here’s what made it onto our priority list:
Finishing the heating pipes to the bedrooms
Fixing the furling system for our Genoa
Hoisting and preparing our sails
Installing our EPIRB and MOB devices (essential safety equipment)
Setting up our AIS so other vessels, and anyone following along, can track us on their navigation systems
Of course, as it often goes, a few “unplanned” projects found their way onto the list:
Servicing the mast winches
Rebuilding the sink in the aft cabin head (bathroom)
Installing a new toilet
Resealing the seams in the head so we can use it as a shower when on anchor
Mounting our new chartplotter above the navigation desk
With all of that behind us, the moment we had been working toward had finally arrived. It was time to say goodbye to our family, untie the lines, and set sail.
