ship’s log 11: it’s getting real!
In the end of december it was finally time to hit the nail on the head.
It was time for us to quit our jobs and our appartement and to start packing everything we want to keep in to boxes. Some things will move on board with us, while others will be stored at our parents’ houses. This phase comes with a lot of planning — thinking things through, prioritizing, and lining up all the tasks that need to be done before we can truly let go.
Because we’ll be sailing under the Swiss flag, we’ll remain officially registered in Switzerland. That means changing our official address from our apartment to Karin’s parents’ home, allowing them to handle the bureaucratic side of things while we’re at sea. They’ll receive our mail and bills and help us navigate all the legal matters, including taxes and other paperwork.
This setup also allows us to keep our existing health and boat insurance — one less thing to worry about as we prepare for life on the water.
Step by step, everything is falling into place, and our sailing life is starting to feel more real every day.
